Hehe, just a little snow down this morning. Highway snow plows have been going since 4:30 this morning. And just went by again. At least 4 passes in the las three hours. Might only be an inch of snow. :106:
Any way, a couple of pictures. Son’s ford is ready.

I guess I’d have to agree with Eugen. I’d rather be outside, if I had to be, in -2C and snowing lightly, than be out in 2C and lightly raining.

Well it seams that it is our turn . :hitsfan: for about 6" here . Not even going to start the tractor up . We have +6 and then a couple days of rain coming . But the kids got a day off going to school, but still have to do it online . One good thing that came out of Covid is now when the school buses are not running they can do a lot of it online . Less catch up when they go back .

I'm glad the forecast is calling for a day above freezing here in a day or two. We've had snow for the last few days sticking to the ground. Ugh. Still too much outside work to do here and the snow isn't helping. I still need to find time to remove the hydro vac and mower deck. Time for the snow caster.

I got to use the snowcaster to clean the ridge left by the plow. I love the snow and clearing it! 🥰 :8:

Meanwhile in sunny Southern Ontario we got a dusting... not even enough to cover the grass. Probably a good day for tow truck drivers though :))

We got more today :cuss: . As much as I did not want to . I had to fire up the machines , That is when the Blower would finally start . :cuss: Got to look into that . And put the bucket on Frankie as I still had the forks on . By the time I got the 446 blower tractor going the snow had got real packy and did more pushing snow than blowing . Didn't clog the chute , just packed up in front of it rather than going into the caster . Anyone have any tips for when it does this ??

I have had that happen to the snow caster and my walk behind Sears machine. It packs in front and just won’t go into the blower. I have found if I drive fast into the pile some goes into the blower and then just builds up again. So I have to keep backing up and ramming the pile. So sometimes I think it’s just easier to use the blower as a plow and push the wet heavy snow off the driveway. :peace: Harry

It officially winter. We brought out the big blower tonight.

Young guy drove the tractor and I got the shovel and a warm pickup in between.

You guys up there can keep having all the fun you want in the snow. We were below freezing most of the day today but the forest is back in the 50s into the weekend with a soaking rain. We desperately need the moisture. The only time I like snow over rain is when the temps are near freezing. Working in a rain that cold is just miserable.

My deck is still on too. I also need to clean the carb and clean out the cooling fins. Both require disconnecting the hydraulic pump to remove the various shrouds. I skipped the hydravac this year. Saves a good hour or more when mowing.

I saw a few random flurries this morning on the way to work. No snow here yet. Were back up on the 50's for a few days with rain like JSinMO.

We got a couple of inches on Sunday morning, with barely getting above 20 the last two days it's stuck well but the next couple of days are supposed to get to 40.

I got the deck off and the blower and chains put on the 4118 on Sunday at the cabin so that's ready to go, just have to throw a new battery in it.
The 448 needs the chains and blade put on.
The Blue thing has the blower and bucket on so it's ready to go if needed. It just needs full service done. :47:

That happens to my throwers too. Only thing I can think of is, after the first pass, then only take 1/2 bites of snow. That might help. I really have never figured out a good way to fix that trouble.

I've had similar happen with my snowcaster with wet snow. My tractor struggled to push the snowcaster through the snowbank at the bottom of my driveway. My Berco's got teeth on the auger which chew through snowbanks.

Did you speed up the auger by changing the drive spocket like I did ? I am wondering if the speed of the auger has something to do with it . 2 stage blowers , the auger turns slow and the fan turn fast . :106: :hm:

I have not made changes to my SB48's drive. My SB48 was built in 2001 and I think it's already got the sprocket upgrade. I could count the number of sprocket teeth and measure the pulley diameter if you want.

Almost every snow I had the last two winters has been that heavy wet stuff. :pullhair: The pushing along and then gulping in a chunk and plugging the shoot. :cuss: I haven't came up with a good remedy, sometimes a partial cut helps. :106:

6" pulley, 19 tooth sprocket.

I wonder if someone who gets into this situation could try and slow the engine revs way down, which would slow the auger down and see if that helps any. I know the thing won’t throw very far. But just to see if it changes any thing. Dave’s thought about a slower speed auger got me to thinking. Which could be bad. :giggle:

Oh oh. More thoughts. I knew I should not of started thinking. :109: The best solution, if possible, is to wait till the snow is starting to freeze or be frozen. Not always practical thou.

Another thought is, do commercial snowthrowers do the same thing. May need to look at videos to see.

I only recall having the issue once over the past 7 years. The snow was wet and well packed.

I like the idea of just taking a small bite and not the whole width of the blower. That would probably work just fine, but a person still has to make the initial cut into the snow to make a path. :peace: Harry

I did not have this issue at all last year as well . Maybe just the right conditions for it to happen . I hope we don't have more of those "just right conditions .

It seems around here the last few years that we get more of that wet type snow, or we get a normal snow fall, then it rains.
