What a neat project. What's the context?Toolslinger wrote: ↑Sun Jul 23, 2023 7:12 am Floor replacement in the gristmill... First board in.

250 year old gristmill on my property. Slowly becoming my woodworking space without removing any of the original equipment. It's a fabulous building, but it needs some work. Time is not kind to wood in a damp environment.

No sluice. The big iron pipe coming in at the upper left of the photo supplies water to the turbine mounted on the end of it. Basically everything is intact, but it would take a lottery win to put it all back to functional. Currently working through permits to rebuild the dam that fed this, and 2 out of 3 other mills that were on the property.

A buddy packed his 60 hp turbine with dry ice to free it up after 30 years of non use. He sandbags the raceway shut while freeing the turbine and rebuilding the intake gate. They can be brought back to life.

Re: Pictures: this moment
I have 0 doubt it could be put right. Just isn't likely to be by me. If I had nothing else to deal with, the perhaps. I really have no need for a gristmill, and I don't really want to open a tourist attraction. My father always thought about putting a generator on the turbine, but that too would be a significant undertaking.
I will do my best to save the equipment, and structure. Hopefully the next owner will have more disposable income, as well as an interest.
