Snocaster update

I'm going to start to tear into my snow caster to check the bearings and replace the drive chain. It currently has a 16-tooth sprocket and since I'm changing the chain, I figure I should change the sprocket which has some wear. If I'm changing the sprocket, I should change to a 19-tooth sprocket and longer chain. I have a 20 hp Onan on the 446-snow caster tractor so I know it will handle the extra demand on the engine.
I was just putting this out there to see if anyone has done this and if they came across any problems in doing so. Comments are appreciated by all members.

I’d say go for it. You can always change it back, if you find it’s lugging more than you want. Neat to hear if it makes any difference Harry.
I changed cogs on my Ford snowblower years ago. It was the cog on the impeller. But I went a larger cog to slow it down. Worked great.

I did that swap build the caster for the 446 Blower tractor , but have yet to really test it this winter will be the real test .

Harry, I converted to the 19 tooth sprocket several years on my M84 caster which is used on my 446. The tractor handled it with no problem, and I gained throwing distance. About the same time I had the rubber "auger paddles" which helped, and I cut four extra teeth (2 each side) on the chute rotator to allow for a slight increase in side to side direction. I should have done something about a chain tensioner, but I didn't.

Harry, what caster do you have? What not add an adjustable chain tensioner at the sprocket like the sb48 while your in there? That way you can set the auger adjustment close as possible to the housing and keep it there. I upgraded a 3 digit caster I use to have a long time ago to the 19 tooth and was very happy I did it then. My sb48 original came with it and I have since rebuilt it with the same.

Jancoe my snow caster is a R84. Lionel posted some pics of an adjustable upgrade he did on the original site. That is probably the route I will take when I get into it.
