EXCELLENT work David. Most people wouldn't have the tools or the knowledge to do such a repair. I always enjoy posts of this nature.

Thanks Harry , the fact that I apprenticed as general machinist after high school for 4 years sure helps . I have worked to keep those skills alive over the years . I do enjoy the ability to repair ,rebuild, re-purpose and save what someone else worked hard to make . I hate throwing away something just because it has a little damage . It's good thing for me that the wife is like minded or she would have left me at the curb long ago . I have always said my brains are in my hands .

I did machining after high school myself. After two years I was drafted in the Army and when I got out, I started to weld and fabricate. Those skills have stayed with me also, but more on the welding than machining.
I also repurpose items all the time and fix things for my wife. Lately it has been fixing Christmas decorations, chasing down blown bulbs and occasionally make a Christmas decoration.

I hate seeing good stuff going to the dump, just because of the replace culture. I know it's not the fault of the individual. We continuously lose skills, and for many it's just easier to replace the whole dam thing.

Therefore I appreciate people like Dave who teach us a thing or two.

Dave - thanks for this! I'll need to be replacing my front bearings and hopefully the hub isn't too far gone. If so this thread will be very helpful. Cheers!

I agree - our current "replace, don't fix" culture is where our world is at right now, unfortunately. Any repair skills that can be preserved and passed down will always be valued. I recall a few experiences as a kid where I just didn't see the point of fixing something sometimes (and sometimes it's not worth it) but certainly not with these tractors (or any other tools from years ago). Also why so many of the chainsaws in my collection are "vintage" lol.

@Chad maybe you can show us your vintage chainsaws when you get a chance, I love those :D. I have two old Homelite XL-12, hardly a collection, but I like them and would like to get some more vintage chainsaws, but no time or $$ right now :|

That's a good start Eugen - that model was copied by everyone for years (and for good reason). Be careful though, they can become addictive like our Case tractors! I hear ya re: time and money, both in shorter supply atm.

I'll get some pics into a thread when I get a chance!
