Colt Case Ingersoll Garden Tractors

Here's the main character of this story. Year of birth 1977.




It's not really my restoration. Got this from someone who got it from someone else who apparently was restoring it. It's engine was smoking bad and I rebuilt it. The rebuild thread is in the Kohler engines section. I'm continuing to get this little tractor in shape. Changed the rear gear oil yesterday after some break in action. Also replaced the starter/ generator with a much newer one. But when I wanted to start it today the battery seemed weak. After some troubleshooting it turned out the voltage regulator wasn't working properly so I replaced it tonight with a much newer one. Now I see 14V across the battery. Nice.




What next? The amp meter is toast so I will replace it. Need to install the PTO and see if it needs anything. Its wheel bearings are new though.

Let me tell you, the non ez pto can be a certain pain to get right. Yes I read the manual. Anyway, after about four ins and outs it's there and it works.

Is it just me, or does anybody else think that hose from the returnline to the cooler has way to sharp of bends in it As I recall mine are almost straight / inline.

You're right @Gordy, this is one of those things I didn't get to yet. I think the PO might have bent the incoming metal pipe and fit the piece of hose as best as he could.

Since the hose was mentioned I had this question to the gang. I had this piece of hose burst on two different tractors. The wrong type of hose has been used? Is fuel line good enough for this application?

I'd say no. Hydraulic return hose I have seen and bought is rated at 300 PSI, and made to handle the hot oil flowing in it. And easy to find, I have a IH dealer 12 miles away that I can get almost all of my hydraulic needs met. Otherwise there is a Napa and a JD dealer 23 miles away.

Hm... our local napa doesn't have anything like that. Maybe @DavidBarkey knows a local source for this kind of hose.

Yes it is not aligned at the valve properly ( adjustable with large wrench at fitting) and bent outward a little .

Did you ask the counter person? At my Napa all that stuff is in the back. Being rural they make up new replacement hoses for the farmers.
