Ray, I seen it and sent it to a friend. He questioned it but said funds are currently tight. I certainly do not need another one. Then I said to myself I don’t have a 448, maybe. Then I woke up and came to my senses. Harry

So guys this is still available!

I bought the cab so that is no longer available, almost bought the whole thing but transporting was a problem. The Craigslist price though was then $950 with the cab and I paid $280 for that. So the GT runs, but had a bad battery (might have been replaced now) but run very rough, The deck is totally shot! no way to bring that back at all. The GT is in reasonable shape though but as I said needs work. The snow blower is the latest three digit (S48) and needs new bearings, minor auger damage (looks like it had been used on a gravel drive). Not interested in the GT but I have offered $300 for the blower as is (needs new bearings and TLC). I noticed that the $950 complete package with Cab is now $975 without cab.. So we shall see. The guy seems motivated but he got the whole package for less than $350 from a renter of one of his properties! Your choice here..

Had to take a look since it's not far from me and I had to give my truck a check out, replaced a radius arm trashed by a deep pothole. The GT sounded pretty tired to me also, Has a new battery and solenoid. The caster auger bearings are shot, has some up and down bounce to it. Said he listed the caster for $575 separately but I could have the whole thing for $900. I passed, my 224 takes care of the big snows in my area just fine but I do have that itch for a big wheel. Oh well, back to all those other little projects and honey do stuff.

Give it time . It may still be there at the end of the summer and be a more acceptable price . Or something else may come up . Stuff comes up all the time .

Just an update guys.. Been trying to work with the seller since I bought the cab for $300. I know that he bought the whole thing (1987 448 and deck and cab for less than $300) even after he Craigslist'ed the whole deal _cab-tractor-snowblower, deck for $950. He listed the whole package for more than with the cab!. So I offered him $300 for just the snowblower (at $300) and he refused! even though the that would have made the left over 448 and deck a $350 package from the original asking price! I have now given up!

I think the guy has visions of grandeur - he paid less than $350 for the whole package + and has already exceeded that but now sees more.. Enjoy...

So I contacted him today and still offered $300 for just the snowblower. He turned me down!!! Not going to try here guys as the seller seems set on losing money here.

Maybe we could purchase it together. I’m mostly interested in the cab but you were interested in a caster. We would probably have to go and check it out after I get home next week. Harry

Yes I did but really was just interested in the s48 snow caste.

Harry, sorry but I bought the cab a couple of weeks ago. I offered the seller $300 for the caster but he wanted to try his luck! Well he re listed the 448 higher ($975) without the cab than the original price of $950 with the cab. So, when I looked at the 448 it's a very late 1987 build the engine ran really rough and he said he spent some time even getting it to run and really smoked (almost certainly running rich rather than burning oil though). The caster was a S48 that was interesting to me (only because I am trying to recreate the chain tensioner on my earlier J & L casters) but has bad auger bearings and probably jack shaft too but could not tell with all the other noise. As I said I was interested in the caster for $300 but he turned me down (remember he paid less that $300 for the whole thing) and I have already given him $300 for the cab alone!

So what now? he still has the GT and the snow caster posted on Craigslist at the inflated price ($975), he also has the snow caster posted separately at $475 for at least 3-4 weeks now and no takers.. Frankly the guy is an idiot...

If I go back in the spring when he calls me my snow caster price will be reduced to $200!!

When I stopped by to have a look. I sorted him out with the caster and ran it to a snow pile which going into it easy was blowing maybe 7-8 feet. Said he needed 900 since he put in a battery. I got home blew back the banks at the end of my drive with my 224. It was nice, going up 7' in the air and fanning about 4'+ then landing15' from me. Many of the passers-by were enjoying it too. Well that 448 is pretty tired to me after that. The Christmas 5' accumulation had me feeling I need more power but my 224 dealt with it ok. I am remembering Paul Harvey now and his "Now, for the rest of the story". Be Well
