I have had a rough day.

Post by thebuildist »

SO:

I'm working on installing my bucket to the loader. The 48" bucket I bought off of Craigslist was a fortunate find, but it's not the perfect shape.

It has an extra angled protrusion that puts it way out in front of the boom's lower pivot pin. It makes the tractor too long to fit in my shed if I wanted to park it with the loader attached, and the extra leverage reduces the lifting strength at the cutting edge.

I couldn't decide if I was going to modify the bucket or not, so I designed the quick-attach to mate parallel with back of the bucket if I did choose to remove the protrusion. That way I could choose to either modify the bucket or fill the gaps with brackets.

Ultimately I decided to go ahead and modify the bucket, but I intend to leave the ends of the bucket stock and only flatten the center section where it actually contacts the quick-attach adapter plate.

I came up with a clever plan to do it: I cut the steel right at the protruding bend, and mounted the whole bucket in my shop press, pressed the flaps down flat and tack welded them in place.

It worked like a charm. I was very pleased with myself.

Pleased, that is, until I let my phone fall out of my pocket while I was mowing. And the mower found it before I did.
This is a Pixel 4a after an encounter with a mower deck.

You'd think that would be the reason I say "rough day", right?

Sadly, no.

It gets worse. It turns out that I didn't actually remove THIS protrusion:

It turns out I actually removed THIS ONE.

So now, not only am I not close to finishing my bucket, but I actually have to UNDO everything I did today before I can begin to actually do it right.

I have had a rough day.

That feels much better. I'll stop whining now.

Bob

You're so right. I was actually thinking, "I would literally be better off if I hadn't gotten out of bed today."

LOL.

Thanks.

Ouch! :109:

Bob, on the bright side, maybe it was time to say good bye to Android and say hello to Apple. I always carry my phone in the pocket, even with shorts that have very shallow pockets, and live in fear that it'll fall and get run over. Sorry to hear it happened to you.

As for the bucket.. no chance of making your garage a foot longer?

Lol. I appreciate the suggestions. But I can't rebuild my whole shed, and I can't go to the phone/computer dark side!!!

I plan on tomorrow being better!

@thebuildist Oh man I feel for you. But don't add on to your shed now because you will probably find the addition is on the wrong end when finished.

I have trashed about 8 phones in as many ways. The first 1 launched through a walk behind snow cannon, Dropped a truch wheel on one. There were a number that failed the float test. Some met their final calling when dropped from sundry heights. Phone disconnects have happened less frequently since I started wearing hearing aids. I leave the phone in a safe place like the side rail on my pickup and out of harms way. My hearing aids will stay connected to it up to 50 feet away untill it falls off the siderails while driving in heavy traffic on the 401. Funny how while phoning a freind and it goes dead you remember where you laid it. I didn't go back and look for it and assumed it was flattened shortly.

MAYBE I could modify the shed tomorrow. But apparently if I tried to do it today, I'd probably knock the whole shed down. And my house too!

Man I’m glad I’ve never had a day like that!

I’ve had days where everything I touch goes wrong. There have been times when I’ve actually stopped, put the tools down, turned off the lights and walked away. Just figured that day wasn’t my day!

On the bright side with your talent, a nights sleep and a fresh start, and that bucket will be done. Don’t know what to say about the phone.
