They came with the diesel and vanguard engines. I vaguely recall they may have come with Kohler opposed twins? Not sure about the Onans. If you look on YouTube there are some videos of them running. There is also a video of one running a snowcaster. I had no idea they could run a snowcaster until I saw the video.

There had been a 5118D near me last summer, pretty nice shape for $2500. It didn't last long. I thought I posted the listing. This one looks a little more used, but for $800 it would be tempting.

Ingersoll bought out Grazer Inc. in order to add zero turn mowers to their line. Grazer had private labeled the same tractor to several other manufacturers. M & W gear ( a farm equipment short line company in Illinois) with red paint, Grazer painted gray and MTD. Parts for all brands are supplied by Ingersoll.

So safe to say the only similarities as far as parts interchange to the 3000/4000 machines are the seat, battery and fuel tank cap?

That would pretty well sum it up. The low end models used dual hydros with roller chain final drive, the heavier duty models used hydraulic wheel motors.

I have a 5012 that I did a lot of work on, including a refresh on the engine with new rings and such. I bought it for $250.

They are not all made the same. The one I have has chains and sprockets outside of the lower assembly. One side had new parts and the other side almost had no teeth left. I replaced the sprockets and chains on that side.

I even put new tires on it.

I reinstalled the engine and have it ready to reinstall the top half and reconnect the wiring. That has been where it has sat for years now. I need to just dump it. I lost the incentive to finish it. I got an older Grasshopper 720K. It is still my newest mower at 1998. It was in major need of neglected everything to be brought back to life. In many ways, it is very Case-like. Straight forward robust construction and built to a high quality standard. This summer I had to repower it and I picked a Kawasaki 25 hp kit to replace the Kohler Command that was so messed up from previous hands it just became too much to keep it going. The engine platform is built to take almost any engine of the same configuration.

So, the 5012 is what I was going to mow with. Then came the Grasshopper and it took its place.

If anyone wants a deal on an almost-there 5012 I just want it out of my driveway.
