1985 Ingersoll 448

Does anyone know, off hand whether the 1985 448 came with a TCV holding valve? or just the regular style. In my stash I have TCV versions with holding valve and all the fittings (tubes) for the long frame. Just don't want to get under the GT to check right now with a couple of inches of snow on the ground in WNY?

If it's a true 1985 model year (not calendar year) tractor, it would have an external holding valve or none at all. 1985 was the only year that as dealers we could order tractors with the valve installed, prior to that it was a field installed accessory. Now if you're basing the year of your tractor off of the infamous serial number chart, it could have a monoblock valve as they were used on all 1986 model year tractors and the build began in August of 1985.

I guess I need to clean off and get ready to install one of my TCV's with holding valves in the spring when I intended replacing the hydraulic oil too. I guess I will also upgrade the levers too.

I have two pulleys that have an OD of 5 inches and one that is 4 5/8 inches.. Tending to the 5 inch pulleys but why?

I think that you will find that the belt fits deeper into the old style 5" pulley making the performance essentially the same. If you look at the two designs, the 5" early pulley has a shoulder on the back side that centers the disk, the newer part does not. They do interchange, but the spacers must be arranged properly. The design change was made in order for the 'v' of the pulley to be directly over the center of the bearing thus pulling straight down. The early pulley has the 'v' slightly further ahead (about .100" or the width of the shoulder) causing the pulley and disk to tip slightly forward at the top once there is a bit of wear on the shaft due to the downward pull of the belt. I would use the later pulley that you describe as 4-5/8" OD, it will require a .100" spacer on each side along with the standard 9 piece release stack.
