Gas guage..

So guys, I am looking at fitting gas gauges to all my GT's - 1979 - 446, 1986 - 448, and 1987 - 444. Yeah some have clear tanks and ports in the back of the back seat seat support but really want to monitor from my seat position... just read I'm old, don't want to get off my GT to check, etc... your choice here guys.. So I followed and read extensively about using a meter/gauge from Ali at about $25 and decided to a least check it out. A fellow contributor on another case/ingersoll forum started this thread, He had a few issues that I want to address in my design here.

My first decision was that I did not want to change or add holes to my dash - this was difficult as I wanted to fit to several years of GT ..some had just a single hole and others had an ammeter and hour meter hole too. Frankly I don't need or want either but availability matters here.

Decided that the Ammeter is in my opinion totally useless and therefore my prime target utilize dash space without change.

So, I have three GT's that I will eventually be adding my gas gauge too so keep that in mind as we move on here...

I, hopefully will describe in detail where to drill/cut/and install, etc. the holes necessary to add the tank and the wiring also. Enjoy the link...

I have added the 2" Bosch dial and tank sender sensor to the boat I had previously, and it worked flawlessly; got them on Amazon, and total price was about $50 CAD.

In the picture above the dial has that bracket that's square at the top, but it can be removed and you're left with a standard round dial gage.

There are even cheaper ones on amazon, if you like the cheap stuff. It does need a hole in the tank though.

Wow, I must admit I am really impressed here guys...

Eugen, you my friend have selected the exact way I am going here. I actually have bought three! Over the next week or so I will provide detailed drawings about size and location to bore holes, etc on the tank.

So here's what got me into this...
I have three Case/Ingersoll gt's... each offers a unique approach to gas visibility but none provide that when a Cab is part of the equation.

Only am working with one cab (my own creation) at this time but still never needed the Ammeter so that is going to go... period. Knowing how much fuel I have is much more important to me...

Bob, you should get all the credit for this post as your post inspired me to blatantly copy most of yours, even the gauge and sender. Really the only thing I am adding are measurements and a final couple of instructions.

I will be fitting the gauge to all three of my GT's :- 1979 446, 1986 448, 1987 444 with plastic dash.

As always projects though are taking longer than I intend...

Gas gauge? I don’t need any gas gauge! Everytime I go to use a GT for any time longer than an hour I top it off with my battery operated gas pump. I very rarely look at the gas level. Harry

Same Harry, every time I use my 4020 I have to top it off so I can mow the lawn. Half tank doesn't do it. I'd run out before I finished. I'd like to get a battery operated fuel transfer pump. Harbor freight had a cheap one I'm gonna buy and try out.

Jancoe, the one I have was purchased by my daughter for my birthday a few years ago. I used it when gas gas are full making it easier for grandpa. After half full no problem to lift and hold the can to fill. Similar to this one which has worked great for me. Harry
