Re: What was the previous owner thinking?
Had the problem on my original 1977 446 with BF engine. This engine has a combined fuel pump/carb. I changed it out for a low pressure electric fuel pump and never had another fuel issue. Interestingly, my later GT's with external fuel pump have never exhibited this problem.

I don't fool around with fuel pumps. I just run with gravity feed.

@Spike188 still, which type of pump do you plan on installing Eugene? Once you install it you will marvel how easy it is to start the engine.

Re: What was the previous owner thinking?
Me thinks an electric pump would be prime, but there are several parts engine in storage. I will probably spit and sputter messing with a used pulse pump. Which will be followed up with waisted energy, more head banging, and a new pump. There now, I can't say I didn't warn myself..

@Spike188 I call this "realistic expectations" however, I know you'll get it working nicely.
