Re: Hole in hydraulic oil cooler
Brazing with the aluminum rod would have been the right way to fix it, but my brazing skills are not up to par.

Re: Hole in hydraulic oil cooler
I have TIG welded a few of mine and cleanliness is the key. Heat it up a little then wire brush it with a SS brush. A regular brush would put carbon in the area. I also have used JB Weld with success. Hope your repair is successful. Harry

@Eugen If you can not get that one fixed . I have one , but it is still on the parts frame in the back tent. So you would need to bring a couple of wine corks to plug the hoses when we cut it off .

Thank you Dave, I think it's fixed momentarily. Let's see if it holds.DavidBarkey wrote: ↑Sat Jan 14, 2023 10:36 am @Eugen If you can not get that one fixed . Re: Hole in hydraulic oil cooler
Good to hear you've got it licked... Rubber hose and clamps or did you go with JB Weld?
The cooler on my 446 is the same style - when I'm out in the tent garage tomorrow I'm going to pull the screws and look at mine...

Re: Hole in hydraulic oil cooler
I used jb weld. Most likely my wire brush was not clean, so I used clean 100 grit sandpaper, applied jb weld to a larger area, and allowed it to stay in the hot air coming from the diesel heater. In 20 minutes it was rock hard. Not sure how it behaves in regards to heat/cool cycles, we'll see.RoamingGnome wrote: ↑Sat Jan 14, 2023 5:45 pm Good to hear you've got it licked... Re: Hole in hydraulic oil cooler
Did you use a stainless steel wire brush ? Normal steel brushes will contaminate the aluminum with carbon . Any oil left in the cooler will wick to the heat as well .Eugen wrote: ↑Sat Jan 14, 2023 6:19 pmI used jb weld. I did not have a ss brush. I've learned this now from @Harry and you.

Re: Hole in hydraulic oil cooler
sure hope this fix works for you, after its cured maybe clean real good again and apply another coat to trap first coat in between, I have a cooler leak in a wilmar wrangler, have it sitting on work bench now, been searching everywhere i can think of to replace it, so far no luck, had it repaired at local radiator shop but started leaking about 3 hours later, kyle
