646 cab

Post by Harry »

I brought home the $20 tractor cab today between showers. It was a bit of a struggle squeezing it into the back of my Jeep Grand Cherokee. Ended up having it stick out of the back by six inches. The seller gave me a couch cushion to put over the top back that was sticking out, to protect the rear window. The lift gate closed 3/4 of the way and put a bungee on the lift gate to hold it down. No problem driving it home. Slid it out the back and flipped it unto a pallet. This will be in storage until winter time when I bring it into the shop. :peace: Harry

That is a great start to an awesome cab Harry . If you make removeable doors ,you can leave it on year round . It is nice not to have a wet seat or be bouthered when it starts raining in the middle of a project.

I have the cab framework all assembled upside down except for the glass. Some friends are coming very next week and I’ll have them help me lift it and set it on the 646. I need to finish the mini loader project and switch places with the 646. :peace: Harry

I painted the cab framework with gloss rustoleum black paint. Today I had three of my friends from high school over for some homemade smoked Kielbasa and libations. Always a great time having these boys over. I had them lift the cab unto the 646, then block it up with cribing to get some measurements. It’s close to where it needs to be, now for some creativity in fabricating brackets to bolt the cab on. Concerns are having enough room to get in and out of the cab. Having room to open and close the hood. Clearance for lifting arms of the front loader. Head room inside of cab with a little extra for someone then taller than the current owner. So far it’s been an interesting project that I’m enjoying and that’s important to me. :peace: Harry

Looks good Harry . Where I took main bolting point at the rear of both my cabs is where the seat/fender brace and the 3 point hitch mount to the frame/transaxle in the back . In the front comes off foot rest on blower tractor and loader tower on Frankie . As for the hood I have a thin strip of lexan that is held on with plastic wing nuts that let the hood up on the blower tractor . Revisit the 446 blower tractor where I did the cab . It may give you some ideas for yours . Happy :weld1: :creeper:
