chipper abuse

Chipped a couple of shipping containers made of soft 2 X 4's and 1/8" paneling. The clearance between the knizes and screen made the paneling hard to feed but the big stuff was eaten with no hesitation. 3" yew that it was feed made it want to stall. The abused Chipper needs a complete rebuild as it is shaking to peices.

Ended up with a nice trailer load of chips.

Oh boy, you have a lot of projects.

So I'm starting to compile information on the hydraulic motors used on the Case/Ingersoll attachments. Hoping to put something together here with info, specs, and replacement options. Not going to get it all together for a while, when the crazyness at work slows down. When you have time I'd appreciate it if you could get me any info off the hydraulic motor and maybe a couple of pics. Thanks

@Timj I also have a few hydro motors kicking around from Hydravac's, and will be happy to supply pictures when the time comes. Yes there are too many projects here. The yew pruning is because we will be installing a bay and 2 bedroom windows Monday and Tuesday. I have a carpenter buddy helping with the bay. Once the windows are out of storage in the garage there will be room to do small projects on the 646BH rebuild.

That looks similar to the Sears shredder/chipper I have, but I would not dare put more than twigs through mine. Perhaps your chipper is something else. Looking forward to the rebuild if you're willing to share!

The Ingersoll chippers where made by Mackissic. The low numbers produced would not have been cost effective to build themselves. This could be a good thing for another source of parts.

I have a 5HP Craftsman (MTD) chipper shredder. Being the PTO on the 224 puts out about 9HP I bought a used Ingersoll C/S in like new condition. Lets just say I was underwhelmed with the Ingy It has a single knife on the disk for cutting larger branches, the Craftsman has 2.

The hopper is a lot higher on the Ingy, awkward for someone at 5'5" to use, and it is fixed in place. The hopper on the Craftsman is at least a foot lower and rotates down to the ground, so no lifting, leaves can be raked into the hopper.

The Craftsman has a bag for the discharge side, easy to dump the bag into the cart and haul to the garden. The Ingy needs a large tarp under the discharge and out at least 15 feet out to catch the discharged material, then you need to drag the tarp to the garden or shovel it into the cart. Not an issue if I were to haul everything to the edge of the woods and blow it in, but then I would not run it through the chipper shredder.

My 3.5HP toy does not overwhelm me in any way . Many a time I've toyed with the idea of building a more serious shredder. But then I don't have that much use for it and even less time.
