I assume your 20 Ferguson is negative ground. I’d agree you got lucky it didn’t burn any thing up. I wonder if it’s been arcing for awhile and not a solid connection to ground. Glad you found it.

Now that you mention that. I think your right on the arcing for a while. That makes sense. Because I thought it strange there was hardy any mark on the bonnet when I looked.

Noel- You should be able to get some insulating boots for your battery terminals at tractor supply or the auto parts store.
