When tractor pulleys get rusty and pitted, the belt can slip and wear down fast to the point where the belt bottoms out in the pulleys and appears to be too long. I had this issue on my RM44 and RM48 decks.

So got the Yardworks tractor fixed up. Cleaned out all the stuff, Beepin mice. Cut some grass with it and it seems fine.

Then, Sister in laws mower quit too. Looked at that today too. Old air filter was rotten and a piece of it got jammed up in the choke. Cleaned that out, made another air filter, check the plug, changed the oil. Start first pull and ran good. Plastic deck on this model. I’ll take it back tomorrow when I go to finish grass at sons. Sister in law lives in the other house beside sons place there and she does around and under her trees. Makes it a lot easier to cut the grass there when she does that. About 25 years old that mower.

I was working out back in my wood splitting area to clean up and mow the tall weeds. I have a 226 stored back there and I took the tarp off and popped the hood. I had put some moth balls in the battery compartment to keep the mice out. The mice moved in and removed the moth balls. I cleaned it out and put some more in there. I'm going to bring this GT up to the shop and work on it this winter and make it a mower. Possibly to sell or just keep it as a back up machine. Dammed mice. I need a cat around to keep them cleaned out!

So you don't feel so bad Noel, my 444 mower duty tractor just won't engage the blades. Hm.., last time I mowed I decided to go through a thick and tall patch of grass and it slowed down and then stopped. I was in a hurry and just left it untouched.
This morning I had a look, and the belt is chewed up pretty badly grrrrrr
Also, my 644 runs like a theremin. Found a lot of deposit in the carb bowl. How does that dust make it past the fuel filter?

Well we’ll, more troubles. My 1951 TEA20 Ferguson tractor has troubles this morning. Figured I’ll take it to a parade this Saturday. So checked oil, anti freeze. All good. Filled with gasoline. Did a little work with it, then took off the rear blade. Noticed droplets of some thing on the inside of the front left wheel. That’s just great. Antifreeze leak. Opened the bonnet to get a better look and found the battery slid over and positive cable had been touching the bonnet. Melted the cable end and bolt that tightened the wire on. Hard to say when that happened. Was not hot.
Jumpins any way. Every thing still seems to work electrical wise. Just lucky in a lot of ways on that one.
Thermostat housing gasket leaking I’d say.

If it's not one thing it's another. At least we have this site to bitch about it and an audience who understands the pain.

Nice theremin reference, don’t hear that one every day! When I read that I could hear a tractor running that way!
I hope you get it working

@Propane57 The dang mice sure seem to work fast. We have cats but they can’t get ‘‘em all. I have to keep an eye out year round for nests. I’ve already cleaned 2 out of the 648, and 1 from the radiator of my Super H.
I assume your 20 Ferguson is negative ground. I’d agree you got lucky it didn’t burn any thing up. I wonder if it’s been arcing for awhile and not a solid connection to ground. Glad you found it.
