I like the rake! My neighbor had one for his yard before moving. It always seamed easer to rake to one side then pick up with loader than dealing with mounting and using the hydavac.

Ok all done. All picked up and moved it to sister in laws garden. Loader misses some hay, but not the end of the world. Really just entertainment. But the grass should be cut. And helps keep the weeds down in the garden. And retains moisture a bit. Gave it a second cut with the Ford. Looks not bad.

You got a good system going there for you Noel.

By the way most people would avoid using hay/cut grass in their garden like that on account of bringing seeds in. People even avoid some manure, unless it was heat composted, for that reason. My take on it is, you'll have to deal with weeds anyway, so I'd do what your sister does if I had a source. That hay also brings into the soil a lot of nutrients and good texture when it breaks down!

I been doing this for years Eugen, but I get what your saying. Wind can blow seed in, birds can drop seeds in, so no real way to stop getting weeds. Her garden seems to do well and most gardens have weeds. Don't know if hers is any worse than any body else for weeds. Just my take on it.

I’m with you guys. I think the benefits of putting mulch hay on a garden to hold moisture and amend soil outweighs the weed problem. I’ve put in a garden with and without mulch and I can’t say I really saw a difference in the amount of weeds. I can say my soil is pretty heavy with clay and adding hay and straw over time has started to loosen it up.l and make it more easily tillable.

So, sister in law didn’t use all the hay. Was a lot more this year than normal. Anyway, I figured I’d put it in the potatoe patch. Maybe the bugs won’t see the plants now.

Or set the hay on fire with the torch and it will burn to the other end and automatically burn all the bugs.

Any way. It will help keep the moisture there. Suppose to rain again tonite and tomorrow.
So will see how or what this does.

Grunt is a LGT 100 Ford. It has a Kohler K241 10 hp. I think the engine number is right,
