Sooooo, someone over at mtf (mytractorforum.com) posted that the site suggested him to have a look at tractorforum.com, which suddenly looks the same as guess which other sites?

Both my tractorforum.com and casecoltingersoll.com are owned by Vertical Scope, which turns out it's in Toronto! But tractorforum.com is owned by a US company, carbon media.

Yet all three switched over to the new xenforo forum software at about the same time. Coincidence? :76:

It's all about money, downside is that because the mods maintained a A+++ site with no spammers let in it flourished and became attractive enough to be marketed by VS that it ended up where it is now.

I had a 78 F-150, loved that truck. It had a 300 -6 and 3 on the tree. I could step up on the bumper, then over the radiator on to the frame, then step down onto the ground :shock: That sure made it easy to work on

Those valves might be air compressor valves. That style is uses with a spring loaded spring steel plate seated against the bottom side. The valve and stem do not move unless the drive motor is set to run full time. In that situation the "set pressure unloader valve" will force the valve down letting the compressor run idle while the air is bypassing the seat. The spring steal plates tend to crack in high temp applications or where the filters and oil are not maintained correctly.

I think it makes fun of those city women who want anything with a diamond on, remember those tv ads "diamonds are forever" ? My wife grew up in the country side but they had no access to any tractors of any kind, and doesn't want to have anything to do with them now either. I'm fine with that and I'd buy her a diamond if money wasn't a problem.

2 observations:

1. My adult son got to watch his then-65 year old grandfather --not nearly as robust as this fellow-- do the very same trick. But it was a tilting trailer parked going up a slope. So he drove uphill to meet the trailer, and then when it tilted it went WAY uphill, and physics took over from there. An ambulance, a brief visit to the ER, no major deal in the end. But my son is scarred for life for having watched it happen!

2. The dude has the cables removed so that his tailgate is bent past flat, laying/buckling down on the ridge of the bumper. Even if it worked, he was going to do $500 or more damage to his shiny truck! What was he thinking???

It's not like me to laugh at other people mishaps, hopefully the guy didn't get hurt. But really, it baffles the mind how people think some stunts like this will work.

One of the greatest finds for me is a manual winch that I take with me when I get another tractor. Even so I stay out of the trajectory in case the steel cable comes undone or snaps. When I was young I worked for one year in a coal mine. That taught me all kinds of things about being around heavy things that can crush you.

When I went in for dinner I put on my jacket and noticed my pocket was bulging. My gloves were in my pocket. That was a "Hello Dummy Moment."

Actually I think that was me trying to find the short in the communication bus lines in a Ford Excursion a number of years back. Bus line were down causing a No start .Turn out to be the last thing I unplugged . The power rear tail gate module

. Everything is behind the interior panels or carpet , and none of it comes off with out pulling the seats .

2 days to find it and a day to put it back together .

Customer did not like that bill .

I can imagine the frustration Dave. Electrical gremlins on cars are the worst! After I was in the army I spent a year as electrician in a large bearing factory. I loved working on the machinery there, but it was much simpler, contactors, relays, switches, lots of room. What bothers me most about working on cars today is the lack of room. It's a pleasure to work on our tractors though!

So this morning see reminds me, while she is at work, that it’s black cart garbage day. I replied, OK. Then I replied, if I can remember when I walk out the door. I’m bad for moving a few feet and forgetting what I went there for !

That pic reminds me when I was in high school auto shop. There was a guy in my class that drove dirt track stock cars in the summer and thought he knew everything about cars. He was a little older than most of the other students, so that tells you something about his academic record. He had a really nice Ford Falcon Sprint car he drove to school. He had it in the shop class and someone dropped a washer down the carburetor. He went to start it up after the class and it made a loud racket. He ended up tearing it apart and found the washer. The next day the teacher read us the riot act and wanted someone to come forward. No one owned up to it as I can remember, and it was just forgotten about.

TOOLS EXPLAINED

DRILL PRESS :

WIRE WHEEL :

The look seems to come naturally, one nice thing about being retired is that it's a lot easier to keep clean -

I was at Toromont CAT before I retired and spent most of my time working on rebuilds/refits of big loaders/scrapers and haul trucks used by the steel company - coming home with a beard full of coal or slag dust would make me look 10+ yrs younger but was a pain to wash out...

was ok to cut grass. Then I got the "brilliant" idea of attaching a 1/8 thick plate to half the front frame, as a blade to push dirt. I need to find those pictures... what was I thinking.

Walking out of one track is annoying, 2 at the same time definitely kicks it up a notch. Looks like he slid sideways down the bank and out of his shoes... At least it's gravel - last time I put a track back on an excavator it was in the middle of a coal field at one of the local steel mills - that was a dirty job
