Case 224 splits wood.
Case 224 is in splittin mode now, over at my sons place.
I did cut the grass again this week and the belt did not flip. So that’s a good thing.

Sounds like you got the belt sorted out. How's the wood splitter work? Plenty of power, reasonable speed?

Re: Case 224 splits wood.
Works great Matt. Last year I put 3” or so hardwood round pieces in the opposite way. And it would cut though them. Not all at once but push a bit stop then push then stop. Do that a few times and it cut through the wood. It works great. It’s a little slow. But that’s fine by me. I’m not selling wood so I don’t rush. And it’s safer.
20” stroke is 24 seconds cycle time. At 2000 rpm. So up the rpm it will be faster. 16” stroke is a bit faster. So depends on the length of wood. Mine varies from 16” to 20”. And a lot of the time the wood is split after only pushing the round half way.
So it’s fine for me. I use to use the 1951 Ferguson tractor on it. It was slow. Only 2 gpm pump or so in it.
I normally last year ran the Case 224 at around 2700 rpm. Noise level not to bad at that. Thanks for asking Matt.

Sure beats splitting by hand. Does your splitter return on its own?

Re: Case 224 splits wood.
Not knowing what valve your splitter has, I don't know if it can be modified to accomplish this. However, you could replace it with an inexpensive valve that has a detent for the return stroke and automatically kicks the lever into the neutral position when the ram is fully retracted.
Saves lots of time,
Bob

The Brave wood splitter I have has that feature. Split a piece of wood and when your stacking or positioning for the next split the wedge is returning and stops ready for the next go. It dies certainly save time. Harry

Thanks Bob. I’ll take a picture of the valve.

Here’s a couple pictures of the valve.
At the wood splitting again this morning. Running the engine at around 2200 to 2300 rpm. Working great.
