My wife talked me into taking a day away from old tractors and trucks. We made a big loop around our region. I thought I’d share some pictures with you of our travels.
We started by heading to the town to our north and enjoying their fall festival and parade.
Then it was due east across the Mississippi into Illinois and some great fall scenes.
As we made our way southeast it was time to cross the Illinois River. Here’s a couple of pictures of the old center lift bridge.
After crossing the river it was south to a small Mississippi River town with a ski lift to the top of the bluffs. We rode the gondola car to the top and found they had what I guess you’d call a sled coaster at the top it was a fun ride.
We rode the open chairs back down to the river bottom. Unbelievable views!
We decided to take the southern route across Calhoun Island back toward home. First stop was the ferry across the Illinois river. ]
Then a stop for supper on the island. The Wittmond Hotel has been in operation since 1847 and is still run by the same family. ]
There is no menu here you come into the dining room have a seat and they bring food till you say stop! It was all great! Fried chicken, roast beef, homemade sausage, and about every side dish you can imagine.
One more river crossing to make across the Mississippi River back into Missouri. We had to wait to get under way to let a massive pleasure river boat pass
The last leg of our trip was due north back home. Quite a nice day. Who knew you could have so much fun with out a tractor involved!
Let’s take the day off

A very nice day indeed. Nice pictures. But I’m sure you saw a tractor along your travels some where. Heheh.

Your right Noel. I actually saw all manor of tractors big and small, but I couldn’t play with them so I figure they don’t count.

What a great trip to do with your family on a Fall day! The weather cooperated too. I want to visit the Wittmond hotel now!
