Fix on the garage door, last two Saturdays.

Post by propane1 »

All new panels in the old garage door. Did the lower 8 last Saturday. And the top 4 today. Got it all scrapped. Ready for the goo to seal it up. Hopefully done in a few weeks. Thanks to my son who has his grandfathers carpenter skills, that I missed out on, between the two of us it’s fixed. Great way to have your son to spend time with ya. :D :D
Poor old door about 45/50 years old. I’ve lived here 30 years. Panels all bad from sweating in the winter time with heat on. Was scared they’d blow in or snow push them in in a snow storm. They should do for my time now.

Looks like it turned out great! Those door can be heavy. I had one like that years ago. I put it up to back the truck out, I guess the springs were getting weak because the door came down just as I was backing out. Drove through the bottom to sections! I put in an insulated aluminum door with an opener shortly after that!

Got the door all caulked up today. On to figuring out primer and paint. I may have an old can of the purple that the paint place can copy. Or I’ll find a piece of the scrapped off purple stuff and see if they can match it some how.

Noel, what did you use for the panels, plywood? What are you going to coat it with, what kind of paint?

Was 1/4” plywood in there Eugen. So I just put the same thing back in. I gunna try and find a primer that seals and you can put what ever type of paint over it. I used it at my sons garage two years ago on the chip board or OSB that he cussed on the inside to fix up the garage. We then put a coat of white paint over that. Worked good. Can’t remember now what it was called. But I’m sure he has a few cans of the primer and paint there, so I’ll know what it is and be able to go get some.

Little bit done today. Had some bad weather stripping on there. So off to a store. Of course can’t find the same weather stripping. So just cut up some rubber out of the new piece and put it in the old medal piece. Rubber piece was wrong too, but I made it work. :42: :106: :D

Son found the can of primer we used in his garage. So I’ll see if I can find it some where. :106:

And the white finish paint. :writing: Now I have to figure out what finished colour, white, gray, like the building, or wine, sorta the colour like it was.

Hehe. I’ll get the :wife: involved in making that decision.
Stay tuned. Hehe.
