I know winter is slowly working it's away towards gone, but everyone here has been so helpful to me that since I can't actually cook for anyone, I'd at least put one of my secret recipes out there.
You will need:
3-5 baking potatoes peeled and chunked up
1 onion, chopped
1-2 packages country ham, cut up in bitesize pieces
1 stick butter
1 tablespoon bacon grease
1/2 teaspoons mustard powder
1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
1 teaspoon powdered chicken broth
2 quarts heavy gream
salt and pepper to taste
Combine all ingredients except butter in a large pot. Stir to mix and set on medium heat. Just before it starts to boil, turn heat down to simmer and add butter. Let it simmer covered until potatoes are tender. Smash and few of them against the inside of the pot to release the starch and then stir them into the soup. Let cook for 10 more minutes and serve.
