Home canning

Post by Spike188 »

This past week has been on the non negotiable bucket list. Major customer issues were not going to take priority over canning.

Top shelf: grape juice, pear jam,. 2nd shelf: peaches and pears 3rd shelf: honey, pears, applesauce. 4th shelf: beets and pears.

wild grapes clusters from our side yard should have been clipped 4 days ago but work got in the way. A lot off the clusters started dropping grapes or were beginning to shrivel.
This weeks goal us canning 30-40 quarts of tomatoes.

Looks like a tasty addition to the pantry shelves... I was talking with :wife: about childhood memories of autumn walks with my Dad and brothers, foraging for wild apples at a local nature park, coming home with knapsacks full, and my parents putting up a year's worth of apple jam... If the people from the botanical gardens caught you doing that now :109: they'd have words to say about that... :107:

30 quart of stewed tomatoes and 4 quarts of juice. Now it's time to make a customer happy while the kitchen cools off.

Yesterday the :wife: and I finished up the last of the tomatoes . Our crop was not that great , but a local farmer I do a lot of work for gave us loads of "culls" (non saleable do to blemishes) tomatoes, onions, peppers over the last couple of weeks . From that we made 150 quarts of homemade V6 juice and 30 pints of marinara sauce . The Outlaws are up today to help her with pear jam and corn relish . I have to pick apples for sauce. And then there is the grapes :headbash: . There is a bumper crop and I don't drink wine . :violin:
