New lathe

Post by DavidBarkey »

Got screaming deal ,I could not pass up . Been wanting bigger lathe for some time now . The Atlas 6-18 is just too small but gave me something . The new one is a Craftex 10-18 ( Chinese ) . Not the Standard Modern I was hoping for but it was only used twice to turn some wood pens and is a lot bigger than the Atlas . Come with cabinet stand and some tooling that would have cost me over $3600 to buy new , I got it for $1700. :giggle: Now I have something that I can do more with and maybe make enough extra $ to buy a Standard Modern in the future .
It has been a good weekend . I will upload some pics. when I get every thing set up. If a neighbour does not take the Atlas then it will be up for sale . I have used it to reface valves , make pins , bushings and sleeves ect.

That's a serious lathe! I have a busy bee branded drill press and it's very heavy duty. I think you'll really like that lathe with all those modern features. To change the pitch of threads I want to make on my Myford 7 I need to put different gears and such, so I never do it

Congrats on your new lathe Dave!

Very nice looking, and congrats! You'll find this larger size and addtional features really handy, I'm sure.

I've long since moved on from my Atlas 6" lathe, but it's what got me started, and I'll always have happy memories of it.

Nice lathe, I’ve seen the Craftex lathes at Busy Bee Tools they don’t look all that bad. I have a 11x20 Logan I think that size or near it would be about as small as I’d want to have. There is plenty of times I wish I had something a little bigger with a bit more umph.
