6 foot shaft bearing press

The machine builder over the pond and only sells a complete assembly. Finding a local shop with a press large enough to do the job was futile. My solution, use tools I already own, ReadyRack and an Enrpac hydralic system.

The shaft will only insert through the drum from one end . The drum has a retaining lip inside each bore so both bearings get pressed on the stft and into the drum simultaneously. The bearings are C3, double ball, $150.00 each.

Spike I’m curious what the cylinder that the bearings are going into is for? :peace: Harry

@Harry They are belt sanding drums in a wood surface finishing machine. It is the last machine in a continuous conveyor system passing through 4 units. The drums are in the machine 5.

There are 3 sets of 2 drums in the last machine.

Although the drums only rotate at 10 rpm, they oscillate at 1750rpm. Oscillation is driven on both ends of the drum. If timing is off, the bearings and gearboxes fail.

I can post more pictures end of next week.
