Re: Milling

I haven't cut ash with the mill, so no idea if applicable. I'd think ash would slice up pretty nicely. When I got setup, I remember reading that you want the oiler running basically wide open. The type of oil you run, and the temps can play havoc with those systems, so you'll have to play around a b...

Re: Pictures: this moment

I'll jump in a bit on this... The chainsaw mill rigs are good and bad. (like everything right?) Obviously, they work. You end up putting an awful lot of work in to makeing boards, and turn a bunch of tree in to dust. I'd say, they're as hard on the operator, as they are on the saw, and log. Getting ...

Re: Living in dread of the dredge...

Nope. No kids for me. I do have a wonderful woman in my life that would be thrilled to run either the crane, or the dump on such a project. She has a ton of seat time on the 646 from when we regraded the yard at her first house... Took about 20 yards to get that thing in shape to drain properly. I s...

Re: Living in dread of the dredge...

I actually bought my little crane to do this... Then I came to my senses. That's got a 1/2 yard clam, but that's still an awful lot of digging, plus I'd need a dump truck to haul it elsewhere on the property.

Re: The weather

Metal float thankfully. Just in from an emergency clearing... Power went down, and I had failed to pre-set the generator... Every time I do, the power is fine... I guess that's cheap insurance, but it's annoying... I really need to do some kind of more or less permanent install. 444 did just fine. s...

Re: The weather

Noel - I've got an H1. My father bought it new in 1971, along with a 38" deck, blower, model 80 trailer, and the EZ-Rake blower, and trailer canopy. Still have everything except the canopy which rotted apart. The blower is now mounted on an old Trac Vac trailer, and keeps going. Love that simpl...

Re: Living in dread of the dredge...

Such a beautiful place . Based on your description I assume you are at the bottom of the Niagara Escarpment Range . Natural water flows like that are e thing of wounders. I had to look up the Niagara Escarpment... At any rate, no, I'm well south of that area, down in Pennsylvania. I'm on the north ...

Re: The weather

The 140 most certainly does. Really an outstanding blower. And honestly, I prefer the 140's control layout over the Case, plus it has real, split brakes...

The JD300, isn't the garden tractor... It's the industrial. Loader in this case, so 40 something hp, and 2000# lift on the loader.

Re: The weather

They've got me in the 6-12 band... Hard to imagine after the last 4 beautiful days we've had... Supposed to be heavy, wet snow. Everything was started, and is sitting with battery chargers overnight. The damn 444 was pumping fuel out the carb. Why, I don't know, but I dropped the bowl, blew everythi...

Re: Living in dread of the dredge...

So... The property is near the base of our mountain. The top of the mountain was basically the western extent of Pennsylvania as it started out. I'm west/north of that, so the mill was outside the colony, and also predates the revolution. It sat between a couple forts that defined the edge, and was ...
