Re: 1961 Ford F500 project.
So once you got the battery connections clean and tight, did the starter spin good and strong? With the oily/greasy engine like you described I have had starters that seemed real week. Oil had gotten in and formed a black layer on the commutator that acted as a insulator, some 400 git emery cloth cl...

Re: Case/Davis trencher backhoe
Doesn't hurt much anymore Jeff. 🤷♂️ After the kids were asleep I managed to get the pistons off of two rods. The nut holding the piston takes a 1-11/16 socket, which I don't have. Luckily, after heating it up, it came undone real easy with the 30" pipe wrench. Piston, gland, seals, and o-ring...

Re: Pictures: this moment
So machines like this forklift and the big old giant trencher version that Case made way back in the day makes me ask myself what kind of rear axles they were running to put all that weight on. Because the more time I spend examining and pondering the rear axle in my 4000 series, the more delicate ...

Re: Combine wheel weights
Does anyone know if calcium has a color to it? :peace: Harry The calcium chloride I have seen looks clear in small quantities and slightly milky white in a bucket. Put a dab of it on your finger and taste it, calcium chloride will taste very salty, then rinse your mouth out. Note; you may need to r...

Re: Combine wheel weights
I always thought you fill to just below the air stem, with the wheel on the tractor and stem in the twelve o’clock position. And that was with any fluid. Then add the air pressure you want. Noel That is the way professionals do it so you can rise and lower tire pressure. With the small 23x10.50 -12...

Re: The weather
I wish I had some elevation here. My immediate area is as flat as a pancake. The ditches all dump intp the Erie Canal which is about a mile away. I’m thinking of digging a mosquito hatchery way in the back of my property and have drainage ditches run to it. That way my gardens could drain off earli...

On the bright side Dave, if you sell your :wife: vehicle you get big $$$ :D Hehe. Then try and buy something to replace it. Hehe. Noel Yah , would get more than we paid for it . Re: The weather
Beautiful sunny day here. Snow melting and flooding me at the bottom of the hill. 🤷♂️ can't win. Had to block off and back drag the lower driveway section in front of the shop last week as it became soup . First time ever for that bad . Any chance of landscaping some shallow ditches to lead the wa...

Beautiful sunny day here. Snow melting and flooding me at the bottom of the hill. 🤷♂️ can't win. Part of my yard was that way for many years. Luckily I was able to hand dig a 150 foot or so ditch through the neighbors wood line. Now the water has a nice straight run downhill to a swamp and drainag...

An easy way to determine the difference between cast steel and cast iron is to grind on it. Watch the spark pattern coming off the grind wheel. Use a piece of steel and cast as a reference to compare. Once you see the difference you’ll never forget. :peace: Harry :headbash: yep forgot about that :o...
