Re: Vanguard 12.5HP/14HP/16HP/18HP carburetor cleaning

I reviewed the vanguard service manual section on the governor settings again today. It didn't really give me any ideas. The governor springs are all installed in the correct holes in the correct orientation. I went out to mow for a few minutes to warm it up. Still has no power. After throttling do...

Re: Got the 646 out of the moth balls

I pulled the big tire 646 out today and connected the rear mowing deck. Made a few passes in the swamp driving through water as I cut the 12” high grass and weeds. After about 30 minutes the hum of the rear deck slowed down as did the speed of the GT. I slowed it to idle moved the pto to neutral an...

Matt,

Seems to me like a governor adjustment issue, I don't recall any issues with the Vanguard governors as the Onan's have so hopefully just an adjustment.

Re: belt length dilemma

Thanks @myerslawnandgarden Bob, My plans are to add bracing. I will look through manuals to see if the bracing shows up in any of the parts or operators manuals. Hopefully a manual on hydrovacs will show the bracing. i don't think that it is shown in any of the parts diagrams as, I should be able t...

Re: belt length dilemma

Back to the shop for another week. The grass wouldn't discharge. 20240515_113743.jpg well Duh. Who would weld a discharge shut brace in on the vertical? First step us cut it out and make a new one. That's how the older decks were designed. The toe brace was removed on the later ones and the deck wa...

Re: belt length dilemma

Eugene, Regarding my comment on the mule drives: @propane1 Noel, You are correct about the angle of the idler mounts being at a different angle. That is a difference in the 2 mules. The photo that @Timj posted looks like the same version of build that may last 2 pictures show. As Bob said the mules ...

Re: belt length dilemma

5" in belt length is a huge difference. A K46 is exactly the right vintage deck for a 1980 tractor and all mule drives are dimensionally the same. There are some differences but nothing to prevent them from interchanging between long and short wheelbase tractors. Hopefully your pictures will he...

Re: Did the 446 just dodge a bullet?

If the cause was truly "lack of lubrication" the rear main usually seizes first as it is the last to get oil. Being as the engine was idling, it may have seized enough to stall the engine with little damage. I think you may have that lucky horseshoe in your you know what, Spike...

Re: Case E60 Dump Cart

Gerry, The wheels if original have bushings, not needle or roller bearings, seem to hold up well. I think that someone has installed wheelbarrow tires as you mention, and they will not carry the load the the car is capable of. I think that you should look at trailer tires for highway service such as...
