Shed Repair

We had a nice mild weekend here, so time to start another project The little shed that has become home to the tractors has started to show it's age (1948) and sag a little.

The 448 was hauling tools and scrap and the 4118 moved the log splitter.

The original construction had the 2x4s running horizontal for nailers for the siding with minimal vertical support. Essentially the siding was holding up the building.

The north wall now has 2x6 studs under the rafters.
This will be my ongoing project to fill in between other projects.

Nicely done! It’s pretty amazing how some of these old buildings have stood for so long. I’m betting it had 10000 nails in it!

Snow sleat and rain this afternoon so it was a good time to hide in the shed for a little while. Got the blocking/nailers in on the north wall.
It's now ready to have the old siding replaced.

Summer came and mostly went with not much time to work on the little shed project. The last month I've found some time to get some work done.
Had to jack up and support the south wall to pour a footing for the wall to sit on. Originally it just sat on stones. Built a new studwall a few weeks ago and got the boards on Labor Day weekend Saturday.

Framed the front wall and got the garage door headers in the rest of Labor Day weekend.

Today I removed the old siding from the front wall and put the new boards on.

The old doors are going back on for now. Next step to get all the stuff that got pushed to the back moved so I can stared on the back wall. The north wall is ready to have the old boards removed and new put on but waiting for the grape's to get ripe.

Coming along nicly . Rebuilding instead of starting from new may present challenges , but I feel is far more rewarding to save the old .
