Found some left over potatoes from last year and since the potatoe bug is at the beach,,,,,,,,, I figured I’d plant them. More that I thought, made a full row.
Will see if they grow. Should be up in two weeks or so, I’m thinking. And planted late so the potatoe bug may not make it back in time from the beach to get them. Hehehe.

I never planted potatoes before. Do you keep hilling up the plants to keep producing more potatoes? Harry

Yes Harry. They need room to grow and still be covered with dirt. Hilling has to be done two or more times to keep enough dirt to keep the potatoes under ground while growing bigger. If the potatoe is exposed to the sun, they will turn green where the sun hits them. This green part can be poisonous. Similar to carrots, when the sun hits them and the top of the carrot turns green.

Re: Potatoe planting today
Tears ago I subscribed to organic gardening magazine. There was an article to use old car tires. Plant the potato and as it grows put a tire around it and fill it dirt. As the plant grows through the dirt add another tire and keep repeating the process until harvest time. I never tried it but I was curious how successful it would be. Harry

It would work in a small space. At harvest time you tip over the tires and pick out the spuds. Harry
